Biden announced $8 billion in military aid to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden announced more than 8 billion (8 billion) dollars in military aid for Ukraine to win the war against Russia. He announced this on Thursday (September 26) local time. Biden’s pledge of major aid came during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States.
Aiding Kiev has been a top US priority since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Biden said. That is why today I am announcing an increase in security assistance to Ukraine. Here are some more steps to help Ukraine win this war.
The new aid includes, for the first time, bombs capable of hitting enemy bases with precision, known as Joint Standoff Weapons. The range of this bomb is up to 130 kilometers (81 miles). Ukraine’s military capability will increase if it gets hold of this medium-range bomb. Then the Kiev forces will have the opportunity to attack the Russian forces from a safe distance.
According to Reuters, this bomb is capable of hitting targets with high precision. It has to be dropped from fighter jets. But Biden won’t allow Ukraine to use US missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.
In addition, most of the new aid, $5.5 billion, will be allocated by Monday. Another $2.4 billion will be provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
Biden said additional air defense systems, drones and air-to-ground munitions will be provided to Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine’s defense industry base will be strengthened and its maintenance and sustainment requirements will be supported.
According to his plan, the US Department of Defense will deliver one more Patriot air defense battery and additional Patriot missiles to Ukraine. Apart from this, Biden ordered to expand the training of F-16 pilots of Ukraine. Out of which 18 additional pilots will be trained in the coming year.
