The Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change said that tourists will not be allowed to take single-use plastic (plastic water bottles) in the Sundarbans. Shahab Uddin, He said, ‘Tourists going to Sundarbans will not be allowed to take single-use plastic items. Because the environment and biodiversity are being seriously damaged by the use of single-use plastic.
The Minister of Environment said these things in the speech of the chief guest at an event organized by the Department of Environment on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day celebrations on Monday. At this time, the minister instructed the secretary of the ministry to take the necessary steps.
The Minister of Forests and Climate Change said, “A special program has been taken to stop the use of single-use plastic in 40 upazilas of 12 coastal districts of the country.”
Deputy Minister Begum Habibun Nahar, Secretary Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary Iqbal Abdullah Haroon, Additional Director General of Environment Department Kazi Abu Taher, Director Mirza Shawkat Ali, and others participated in the discussion under the chairmanship of Director General of Environment Department Dr. Abdul Hamid.
